Overview
A growing technology organisation delivering secure digital solutions within the Defence and National Security sector is seeking a Software Engineer to join its collaborative engineering team in Cheltenham.
This is an opportunity to work on mission-critical systems that support real operational outcomes, solving complex technical challenges within highly secure environments. The role offers exposure to modern technologies, rapid innovation projects, and secure-by-design development practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain secure software solutions
- Develop Android applications using Kotlin Jetpack Compose
- Build backend services and APIs using technologies such as Rust, Python, or Go
- Work with containerised environments using Docker
- Support and maintain CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes
- Collaborate closely with engineers, architects, and delivery teams
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices
- Develop proof-of-concept applications within fast-paced delivery environments
Required Skills andamp; Experience
- Commercial software engineering experience
- Strong experience with Git and collaborative development workflows
- Experience developing front-end applications with Android Kotlin
- Familiarity with backend development using Rust, Python, or Go
- Understanding of software development principles, APIs, and modern architectures
- Experience with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work effectively within secure development environments
Desirable Skills
- Experience within Defence, National Security, or secure environments
- Knowledge of DevOps and cloud-native development practices
- Experience building scalable backend systems and APIs
- Comfortable working on rapidly evolving proof-of-concept projects
